August 25, 2009

Thanks for the comment Louise, point taken, but none of the gyms I go to do the caliper thing. Apparently Naturopaths can do some body composition analysis which is even more accurate. I know my bodyfat isn't really 31%. As far as the cardio/heart rate thing.... mmmm I've been shown a pilates exercise for working lung capacity but at the moment everytime I take a deep breath it results in a coughing fit...

Lacking some enthusiam at training. Still squatting wide - I will master this! My right hip flexor has other ideas and I may be hallucinating (from the pain) but I'm sure I heard it scream "Fuck Off" last night when I started squatting... :-(

Wide squats: barx10 40x8 60x6 80x4
knee wraps on: 85x5 90x5 85x5 80x5
knee wraps and belt 100x2 - just to see if I could do it wide stance.

Wide speed squat 60x2 x8 sets
High Box squat (belt only) 3x5 at 100
Leg press 4x10 at 100

and finished with some leg raises which HF also did not seem to appreciate

Vitality @ work.... Free Health check... OK, lets see what they say about me:

Height 160cm WTF?? I used to be 165... I've shrunk - must be the heavy squats!

Weight 69kg

My blood pressure is excellent 110/60

BMI 27 = overweight but not obese (obese being 30 - so I’m not far off…?!)
According to that my bodyfat percentage is 31% !!!!

Resting heart rate 56 – excellent

Blood sugar 4.9 – normal

Cholesterol 4.27 very good should be below 5.4

- HDL 1.45 good

- LDL 2.38 very good

Triclycerides .95 very good 2.0 is the normal level

Lung function 400 – very bad

37 situps in a minute and 47 pushups however I have a cardio age of a 57yo after failing to recover sufficiently after 3 minutes of climbing steps!! Wha??

So in summary: I am short, fat and very unfit - Perfect for a powerlifter :-)

Back to basics in training - trying to correct what may be a technical problem with my bench press. Not keeping tight enough. Light speed bench 5 reps @ 40 kg

Critique welcome....

Cant shake this damn cold! Coughing, sniffing... blehhhh. Frustrating 'cos I don't feel all that bad, but I sound terrible. Stamina isn't too great tho'. Struggled in the squat rack with the volume that I've set myself.

5x5 program 80, 90, 95, 90, 80. used knee wraps for the middle 3 sets.
5x5 Pin squats 70
4x10 Good Mornings 40
4x10 Leg press 100

core stuff - floor leg raises.

I've made onto the Southern Powerlifting Club website in both the members section and in the Club records (my excellent 185kg deadlift!) Whoo-hoo Go ME!

Bought a new printer/scanner/copier at the weekend - will be able to scan in some of my old BB photo's and upload them for a laugh - so skinny! AND bought a paper shredder -whooo ! hours of entertainment for Madii and I. We've shredded nearly everything in sight. Intersting warning diagram on the shredder.... a baby with a line crossing it - Errr "It doesnt shred babies?" Damnn....

August 11, 2009

So sick its not funny. Started last Friday night with a sore throat that turned septic over the weekend . Coughing was incredibly painful and I avoided talking at all cost. Throat started to feel better yesterday (Monday) and the cough developed into one of those barking hacking coughs, cripes you would think I was a smoker... now, Tuesday, and the sniffing and sneezing has set in but I think I'm starting to see the end of this....

No training - obviously! I'm not one of those fools that think training when sick is mucho - all it does is prolong your recovery and infect everyone else at the gym.

Awesome news from Tinkerbell over the weekend at least cheered me up massively. Tink won her weight class at the CAPO Nationals! GO TINK!! She whittled down to weigh in at 73kg and made it into the 75kg class (LOL - muscle chick) I think she was a little worried at the beginning of the week still being 76kg.

Got her opening squat in at 160kg, 2nd attempt 177.5kg, got the weight up but racked it before the call so red lighted and 3rd attempt at 185kg but failed.

Bench opener at an easy 80kg, 2d attempt 110kg - nice and clean, 3rd attempt 125kg, she said flew up but got red lighted on a technicality, by mistake? Apparently in CAPO your bum can come off the bench on the descent but once the press call is given it must stay down. In IPF your bum cant come off after the start call (prior to the descent) anyhoo, by CAPO rules she shouldn't have been redlighted for it and could have protested but decided not too.

I cant remember what she said now for her deadlift attempt, I think I was still spinning out from her massive bench :-) but I know she got 167.5kg which was a PB and I think she tried for a heavier lift but was unsuccessful.

I know she was disappointed by her squat but still 2 PB's, bench and deadlift and I almost forgot to mention a new Senior Women's total record of 437.5

Woo-hoo Go Tinkerbell!!

Tink's boyfriend, Paul Nay, also competed at the weekend and won Best Lifter. From what I can gather he didn't do as well as he'd hoped also, but still enough to take out Best Lifter. Squat 350, Bench 245 and Deadlift 310. I know he'll do more at WPC Worlds later this year. Congrats Paul!!

Cant wait to see the photo's. :-)

August 6th 2009

Shit happens.....

The appliances in the house are conspiring against me. Having gotten over the saga that was 'the dishwasher', the heating started playing up... Several visits from the Vulcan service guy and a $600 bill later, its finally fixed and the house is cosy warm. Mmmmmm, but as luck would have it the very day I stay home for the heating guy, the big plasma TV goes POP and is no more... :-( That was two weeks ago and I would be still waiting for the 'authorized LG serviceman' to call me to say when he'll came and pick it up. Needless to say I gave up waiting and called another TV repair shop who are coming out today!

Moral of the story - DONT BUY LG - ANYTHING!

Upshot of this is that I cant afford to go up to Canberra to watch the CAPO Nationals. So disappointed! Tink tried her best to find someone I could share accom / travel (I was planning to drive up) in order to help with the cost but no luck... :-(

(photographer Deb)

Last weekend Mary and Steve invited everyone over for a 'Christmas in July in August' post comp dinner. WOW, they put on an awesome spread. Mary must have been cooking for days! So much delish food and desserts to die for... literally!! I think I could have eaten the chocolate pudding until I burst. Just one more mouthful - KA-BOOM!!!

Yummmmm

Simon & Mary

Steve & Dib (Deb)

So with all the eating done and no CAPO comp to go too I guess it's time to get off my lazy, chocolate filled butt and get back to some serious training. My goal, still is to get a 420 total - this is what I need, minimum, to qualify for IPF World Masters in 2010. With that in mind I looked up the PA competition calendar and am going to take a shot at the Matti Tikka challenge at the end of November, about 14/15 training weeks. I'm going to use this comp as bit of an experiment too. Gonna train up to this comp with a wide stance squat - ouch! I can feel my abductors hurting already....

Of course if it all goes pear shaped in November then I still have the state and national titles next year to try and qualify - although nationals might be cutting it a bit fine...

PS. The TV man has just been and gone - YAY! The TV is fixed....

Nationals - blow by blow....

Arrived in Sydney Friday morning and immediately went in search of a decent latte and something light to eat. As luck would have it we came across a cafe 'Three Beans' using Toby's estate beans - as Stimpy would say... "Happy Happy Joy Joy"

Wandered back to the hotel and found the bathroom floor was 'wet" and the toilet leaking - yuk. We were quickly moved to another room down the hall. Then it was off to the competitors meeting, only to find ASADA had commandeered the room to give everyone a good talking to about doping control. Sat that one out.... Steve asked how I was feeling and what my openers were going to be. I said I'd dropped my squat back to be sure of getting depth and he offered to watch during my warmups but only to say something *if* I was looking shallow. I let on that my opening deadlift would be 170 -175. He looked a little concerned "Thats only just short of your best isnt it?" "Not any more" I replied confidently with a smile. My pet lift! Then into the meeting to get our entry passes and goodies, tshirt, lifting times and rack heights. Back to the room decided that a hot bath was in order but no... the water was barely lukewarm and I could piss harder that the pressure coming out of the tap.. Ordered, received and ate a room service dinner while the bath was running. Rydges Nth Sydney - do something about your plumbing!!

Slept, restless, up at 5:15am to be whisked away to the comp venue at 6am for a 6.30 weight in and gear check - too early, bleary eyed, still half asleep and hungry. 66.7 kg. Phew! Thought I'd misplaced my knee wraps and went into a panic - to find them sitting snug in my bag all along! Finally something to eat, however the muesli bars that looked so appetising were rather dry and stuck to roof of my mouth. Topping it off, no decent coffee.... sigh.....

I was in the 2nd flight of lifters so as the first flight began lifting, I began warming up. Stressing out about getting my suit on and wanting to get the first squat out of the way, I warmed up to 120 and before I knew it, it was show time! Flustered at how quickly they were moving I was late getting my wraps on and they were a bit NQR. Disaster struck, I failed depth on my first attempt at 127.5kg - what a crap way to start! I knew it wasn't heavy, so I put in a 2nd attempt at 135kg. Better prepared this time, wraps on early! If anything a little too early and had to wait with my legs losing feeling. But it was a good confident squat - 3 whites. Third and final attempt, ever conscious of my depth and the failures in the gym over the past few weeks I hesitated and dropped the attempt to only 140 . I had to get this. I walked out to the rack and grabbed the bar. I deserved to be lifting this weight, it was mine, I'd put in the hard work - take it. Unracked the bar and pleasantly thought "Hey my shoulder doesn't hurt" "SQUAT" called the ref, big breath and down I went, woo-hoo and back up - 2 white lights! Passed!

Feeling a little more relaxed by now but knowing that my toughest lift was coming up - Bench press. The warmups felt heavy and the shirt not tight enough, self doubt got the better of my and I lowered my opener to 82.5. I couldn't afford to bomb. The handout was a bit rough, and I struggled to steady the bar, but I got the lift, still in the competition but confidence was draining fast. Still, stupidly, I went for 90kg on my 2nd attempt. Again, bad handout, bar wobbling and - red lights. Attempt 3: 90kg again and again a fail - CRAP! Would anyone believe me that I'd gotten 90kg in training for the past 3 weeks? Well I guess Jen would. The handouts messed her up too and she only got her opener at 85kg - disappointing 'cos her 90kg presses in the previous weeks were so strong! I thought for sure she had 95kg coming.

Finally onto the deadlift - yay. So cocky! I'd seen the Black Agents notify a couple of girls already so I thought I was in the clear, so I warmed up my deadlifts right in front of them - with utter contempt! Steve tapped me on the shoulder, a gentle reminder not to slam the bar down.... :-) Last warmup at 165kg and then onto the platform. Good set up, back tight, calm.... big breath, reach down to the bar and PULL. Nice, 175kg - yeah baby! Good form. 2nd attempt in as planned - 185kg. The Agents moved in to watch the final lifts, I powdered my legs in front of them, sniffed up the ammonia (gawd damn cats piss) and off to the bar, set up perfectly again. Just as I began to pull the bar drifted forward and I was forced out of position, the bar was already coming off the floor. but not close enough to my legs, my back rounded and I had to grind up what felt like forever and locked it out, Every vertebrae in my back cracked in succession.... White lights! That's all that mattered. Leigh suggested only going for 190, but I stubbornly insisted that I would have an attempt at the masters national record. Attempt 3 - 193.5kg Steve came back to tell me that they wouldn't accept my attempt, it had to be a full 2.5kg increment because this was an open comp, only at a masters comp could I do a .5 increment, so he altered the attempt to 192.5 at which point I had a change of heart and really just wanted to do 190, but too late and 192.5 got loaded on the bar and my head want in the right place anymore. Out onto the platform, setup and as soon as I reached down I was out of position, no chance, I took hold of the bar and knew it wasn't coming with me from that position. But I was satisfied with the 185, its the one I'd counted on. No sooner had I got off the platform the Black Agents swooped down on me - Notified. Damn!
175kg

Spent, dehydrated, sweaty and excited. I started to get changed, stripped off the t-shirt to try to cool down, and started working the suit down, bit easier than the squat suit but still has to be peeled off the legs bit by bit. Sat down in all my glory, crop top and undies working the suit legs down by pulling at my fatty inner thighs when some random guy asked if I needed help. "To do what?" I asked "Get your suit off" he replied. "Ummm, no thanks, I'm right..." weirdo!

I couldn't believe it was over - so quickly and already contemplating "what next?"

Arghhh 2 lousy points!

I missed Best Female Lifter by 2 lousy points. A mere 2.5kg more on my total would have secured it! Arghhhh..........

Oh well....

Congratulations to Anita Millington - Best Female Lifter :-)

I can however console myself with winning my weight class.

Weighed in at 66.7kg

Squat 140kg (308lb)
Bench 82.5kg (181.5lb)
Deadlift 185kg (407lb)
Total 407.5 (896.5lb) Graded Elite II

In the Bench only comp Sunday morning I got 85kg but still missed the 90kg.

I have no explanation for the lousy benching... after getting 90 in training for previous 3 weeks I just couldn't get it together for the comp. Good deadlift tho' - almost triple bodyweight and maintained status quo on squat - well really some improvement 'cos depth is a big factor with PA. Overall a pretty good result.

Thought I'd made clear of ASADA too, they notified Jen and Anita I think sometime after their 2nd squat (bit of a no-no) but as soon as I was off the platform after my last deadlift - bang - notified! I was so dehydrated too... plus they wanted blood.... and not just a little 8ml but a double hit 16ml, big needle left a nasty puncture mark and bruise. (The picture doesn't do the bruise justice)

(L-R) Me, Deb,Mary, Rikki, Jen, Mami

The Southern Belles did pretty well - we were awarded best Female club with little Deb taking gold in the 52kg class, Rikki taking gold in the 60kg class and myself and Jen taking Gold and Silver in the 67.5 class. Mary and Mami did not compete this time. Mary will be back on the platform later this year and bringing little J-Bear (Jacqueline) into the world a couple of months ago :-)

They guys did well too, When the results are up on the PA site I'll post some more accurate details but from memory Tim won his class, Simon placed second in his class and I think Yoji got some PB's.

July 14, 2009

This may or may not be the last update before nationals. No promises...

Whinge mode = on.
Had to re-submit my quarterly whereabouts after discovering that:
a) ASADA will not ask for me by name at reception and
b) Oracle will not escort them to my desk without first calling me.

Catch-22. So my workplace is not suitable for my 1 hour per day anchor. I'm hoping this mass update doesn't trigger some alert in their database. Anyhoo its a damn shame 'cos the office really is the best place to locate me :-(
Whinge mode = off.

Now, on to Nationals. Last of the heavy sessions completed on Sunday with me being squished with 145kg - quite literally too. I had the cross bars set too low and after failing about 1/3 the way up I had to set the bar on the cross rails and there I became pinned with my belt digging me fair and square in the ribs. Nice bruise!

Lessons learnt
1) set the cross bars higher
2) Need to do heavy box squats off parallel.

Hahaha true to form, I haven't even competed yet and already I'm planning out post comp training........... Since there are no more comps I'm interested in this year, this might be a good time to get serious about changing my squat stance - wider. Certainly my deadlift improved with the change to sumo and I need something to kick in for squats.

Bench and deadlift are looking good for competition PB's.

Update on the PA website:

Aussie Championships to be the Biggest Ever (09/07/09)

It's official, the 2009 Australian Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships will be the biggest ever. Entries for the event are now closed and the field is set at close to 100 lifters! The Championships are to be held at the North Sydney Anzac Memorial Club over the weekend of the 18th and 19th of July and will feature Australia's finest lifters. Depth across all weight divisions will ensure exciting competition, most notably in the Men’s 125kg class. Perennial champion Andrew Logan will be looking to defend his title against exciting newcomer and former NRL star Odell Manuel, and the resurgent Stephen Pritchard. The men's line up also includes multiple Master world record holder Wim Van Weenen and Masters 2 World Champion John Myers. In the women's division, the battle for overall honours will be a tightly contested affair in the absence of dual World Champion Jeanette Gevers who has passed on the biggest meet in Australia for the biggest meet in the World - The World Games! Joining Jeanette is current men's number one lifter Richard Hozjan which in turn paves the way for a new overall men and women's champion to be crowned. Anita Millington, Lee-Ann Dwarte, Anne Mort and new PA lifter Vicki O'Brien are the main contenders to battle it out for overall honours for the women. In the men's, along with the trio of 125ers, talented junior Chris Catalbiano and the larger than life super heavyweight, Nathan Baxter, will also be in contention for best lifter.

Woo-hoo I rated a mention! :-)

So there are 15 Female competitors overall, 5 in my weight class! 5 competitors in the bench press comp on the Sunday.

Not long now.......

Last deadlift session last night. Have some mighty bruises which I hope will heal at least a little bit over the next week. Last big bench and squat this weekend coming. A final light workout on Tuesday, just to keep everything moving.

Settled on 67kg giving me a little bit of play should the comp scales be different to mine.

Not much else to report. Feeling good. Ready to roll.

June 29 2009

WTF award of the week goes to:

Yes... well.... on to other business....

Comment 1:
Ahhh nice suggestion Louise, a vibrating electric blanket. Men really are becoming obsolete! :-) "Are becoming" ?? "Have become" in my case.

Comment 2:
Thanks Tegan, Very true, In fact I think these bad sessions force me to re-focus - like a wake up call. But yes they do still add up at then of the day, even the ones where I am planted at the bottom of the squat and Leigh has to pull me up by the ears! A-la weekend just gone....

I know even the failed reps work 'cos my butt hurts.... I can feel feel it when I clench and release... 'cmon everyone do it too, you know you want to... clench, release, clench, release..... Sick! :-)

What I need to do is 'chill', stop rehearsing every lift in my sleep and every waking moment! I even find myself holding my breath for the lift when I'm going thru it in my mind, no wonder I'm exhausted by the time I actually get to training I've already done a 3 hour session in my head.

So, I'm trying to find a distraction, but is that a good idea? Went to the movies on Friday night, Terminator... not so impressed, some bit were just plain silly. Didn't sleep well. Dog yodeling... Saturday night went out for Paul Nay's 40th, wish I could have relaxed a little more, had a drink or ten... eaten... picked up.... you know, all those fun things. But no, cinder-fuking-rella here had to be back in the pumpkin before midnight and ready to squat at the sparrow's fart. Woe is me....

Got home after training and decided that the ultimate punishment for crap squats (and dead legs) was the alternating ice bath/hot shower treatment. Lets see how long I can sit and shiver, it almost becomes a challenge to stay in there feeling my legs prickling with the cold, turning red and then jumping into the shower and blasting them with hot water. How many times can I do it? How long can I last in the icy cold water? My arse aka 'The Titanic'.

Then, after lunch I sat back and watched 4 episodes of 'The Shield' season 7, back to back! Had a headache at the end, not from watching but from the mess that Vic and Shane have gotten into with the Armenians..... But it certainly took my mind off: "Grab the bar, throttle the hands on, duck under, wedge the bar in tight, big breath, hold it, arch out, step back once, twice. Breath out, big breath in, hold it, clench and SQUAT!" Phew.... another rep out the way.... Man! I am doing my head in..........

June 25 2009

No training Monday this week, instead I booked in a massage with Shaun. Tink is adamant that he fixed her shoulder problem, different to mine but she's very confident in his massage skills but she warned me that "Active Release" would be very painful. So this is what I was expecting but far from it, it was a little painful, sometimes but it was bearable. Perhaps he was being soft on me? :-) And in between the AR's was some *very* enjoyable back massaging - the stuff that ZZZ's are made of. If only I could come home to this every night - ummmm, minus the AR.....

Tuesday night, wasn't able to get down to Richmond but I still managed to do some speed work at Definition and honestly the shoulder was improved. I'm impressed... Gave Shaun the feed back and booked another massage for next week - There'll be no apprehension this time!

Wednesday saw me at the physio, Gemma working into my upper back - now she's tuff! No holding back :-) but its worth it. Then I probably go an undo all the good work with rack pulls later that night - 180 6x3 - some trouble to lockout a couple but overall happy to have moved the bar off the pins - LOL. Added a little extra squat work - in the suit. Still stiff trying to get under the bar but just a set of 5 reps at 110 and 120 for the purpose of 'forming a partnership with my suit' ughhhh. Then some ugly bottom squats at 70kg and finished with shrugs.... Absolutely wrecked. Electric blanket on and I laid flat on my back letting the heat work its magic!

Today the erectors are telling me that they didn't really enjoy the work and I'm having trouble sitting still in my chair. Wish Shaun was coming around tonight..... I'll have to settle for the electric blanket again.

No training now until Saturday, home alone tonight, Madii off at 'Year 12 retreat' and Leah & Andrew out as well. I'm under comp weight as of this morning (67.2kg) so I might treat myself to a lamb souvlaki - yummmmm!

June 22, 2009

Things happen in three's.
Three times lucky.
Three Amigos.
Three Stooges.....

Three times I've been tested by ASADA in 8 weeks.....

Yes, the black agents fronted up at the gym again on Saturday, blood and urine. So I think that answers your question Louise, no, I cant pee in peace. The compliance part is just to show that I have provided ASADA with my whereabouts details for the next 3 months, home, work and have nominated a specific location where I can be found for 1 hour every day. Ie. If they turn up randomly at the gym, like they did on Saturday and I'm not there, then too bad, however my nominated 1 hour was at home between 5pm and 6pm and if they turn up during that hour I *must* be there or its considered a missed test, 3 misses in an 18 month period and its a sanction.

Steve did warn me that I'd be scrutinized when I first met with him to discuss 'defecting' from CAPO, so I'm not surprised at being tested, but 3 times in 8 weeks seems a bit over the top. Still, what ever it takes to satisfy them, no point trying to avoid it and honestly it will make victory all the more sweet.

Anyhoo, my suspicion is that the 'real' reason behind the testing is that its getting close to end of financial year and they have a budget to spend in order to get their funding for next year. What better way than to nab a clutch of powerlifters at a regular training venue....

On a brighter note tho', I benched a PB, a triple at 90kg. Touch and go. For my second set I asked Rikki to give me a press call, enforcing a pause at the bottom, tough but I got it! The really great thing too was that Mary let everyone know I as going for a PB and it was like having the will of everyone behind me - or just the pressure to perform... but it really helped and everyone cheered when I got it - awesome!!

During the formalities of the drug testing, I was still quite hyper from the PB and the DCO asked why I was so giggly I told him about how my previous best at Nationals last year was 87.5 and that I just tripled 90 4 weeks out from comp, he laughed and said 'ahh so that's why you're on the RTP' LOL - I wasn't about to tell him it's more likely because I've just come from a non-drug tested federation.

The assumption that I'm good fell out the window the next day at squat training. My 3x3 at 135 turned into a single dismal double. It was my first session in the super suit which had just been taken in again at the shoulders and I was soooo uncomfortable in it. Crap! So backed off a bit and did 2 sets of 5 at 120 instead. Leigh suggested I have another go at the suit later in the week when I'm doing assistance work. I need to control the suit, not the suit control me!

135 double

Back to work after a 5 day break and moved into my new desk - by the window. Ahh prime real estate! Not much of a view however natural light is always a bonus.

Cant believe its almost the end of the 'ASADA' quarter and I have to fill out my whereabouts forms again AND enter my 1 hour per day location where I can be found for testing for the next quarter. Mind you, not once this quarter did they come and test me at the 1 hour time/location that I nominated, no, both times they came to training..... regardless, I must comply or be faced with a filing failure. Ho-hum....

Training went really well at the weekend, very happy with 80kg bench press and 125kg squats. For the last set, Leigh put the weight up to 130kg as a teaser for next weekend's program. Old squat suit pulled gingerly over the new tattoo, which gives you some idea how loose the suit is...., straps down, good knee wraps, belt (of course) Caught on film.....

Leigh was satisfied that I'd done well that morning and so I was treated to breakfast around the corner at Toby's estate. Scrambled eggs on toast with bacon - Yummmm

Later in the afternoon, Leigh suggested we catch up for a latte, he been out shopping to fit out the police gym at Werribee and had a little gift for me.....
OMG!! He bought me a bar! LOL. What an awesome present! I was overwhelmed, so cool!!! What better reward from one powerlifter to another - equipment!!. I loaded the bar into my little Mazda 2 and off we went for a latte. Chuckle, when Madii saw it in the car she was like "What the...??" and christened the bar "Sparkles" because she thought it was such a gay present! LOL. I am stoked!! :-)

June 8 2009

For some time I've secretly wanted to get a tattoo, but the idea of getting a tattoo for sake of having one didn't appeal. Then, a little while back, I'm not sure how the topic came up, Leigh commented (jokingly) that I should get my wrap line tattooed so I'd now how far up to wrap my knees, IPF legal like.... and the idea appealed to me. I toyed with the idea of having a barbed wire tatt around the leg but this seemed a little too much... Then I thought, just a little marker, like a single thorn but that was too small.....

Finally I plucked up the courage, found a design I liked and got it done.... and it's juuusssst right. :-)

still covered in glad wrap...

Before shower...

After shower... nice n clean

June 2 2009

Bahahahaha late forties! At 46 I thought I'd only just cracked the mid forties. At least I'm not 50 like one other 'hardcore' has-been. (snigger)

Update on the physio visit. Working on the premise that my thoracic spine is somewhat inflexible. After some, what I can only describe as excruciating pressure, manipulations, Gemma has prescribed a lumber roll that I must lay on - longways, down my spine, and stretch my scaps around with the aim of trying to get my hand/elbows towards the floor. That' the best I can explain it. Moving my arms up and down thru the range of movement is quite painful and everything clunks along the way. Back in for another visit tomorrow where she will attack me again. I have been doing the exercises and tonight we'll see if there is any, even slight, improvement. (puleeze!)

Booked in for another leg massage with Ruth on Thursday. eeek!

Taking Friday and Tuesday off (Monday being a public holiday) and giving myself a long long weekend!

June 1 2009

Trained gooderer over the weekend - good results all round - benching and squatting. Benching with SPLC has been a real boost for me, physically and mentally. The last two heavy sessions I've been the only female lifting in a shirt and doing a couple of extra sets and falling behind but they've been supportive and spotted me thru my last couple of sets. This extra support has been missing from my bench training in the past. Mary has also started to join us on the bench after having her (and Steve)'s baby girl, Jacqueline, and is already proving to be a formidable bencher after a break. I'm sure she'll be in top form in no time!

Strong squats on Sunday morning 120 3x3reps, 125 2x3reps. Low box squats 70kg 5x3. Followed by a latte a Tobys estate. Next week, if I do well, I've been promised breakfast!!

Looking for ways to amuse myself.... The prohibited substances list is always a good for a laugh - well, at least for the immature...... LOL.

Prohibited in sport - Cocaine Eye Drops Strong - what about mild?
Prohibited in sport - Colifoam Rectal Foam - Ummmm?

Bram: Trust me, no-one wants to see my ab... (singular!) - ROFL

Went to the movies again with Madii on Saturday night - yeah I have no social life to speak of.... Saw Angels and Demons. Very fast paced, still cant get used to Tom Hanks as the lead, he's not quite as I'd imagined when I read the books... but still enjoyable. Madii a little disappointed I think - she was expecting to be a bit more of a horror movie. Wore half of the choc top ice-cream, as always, and almost made my tongue bleed eating violet crumbles.... A good night out - 7/10 :-)
